Union members divided over support for labour leader

A long-time labour leader is resisting calls to resign from the Canadian Union of Public Employee’s National Executive.

The National Executive is calling for Fred Hahn to step down as general vice president after he shared a video on social media that shows a diver with the Star of David on his arm transforming into a bomb as he jumps off the diving board.

The video drew immediate criticism from Jewish CUPE members, who have since filed a human rights complaint against Hahn and the union.

Premier Doug Ford called Hahn, who is also Ontario CUPE’s president, a bully and a disgusting human being.

Hahn has since expressed regret and removed the post.

Some CUPE members express concern on social media that the attacks on Hahn take away from other issues the union should be focused on.
