The union that represents Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has named its first civilian president.
David Sabatini has been appointed the new president and CEO of the OPP Association, which acts as the bargaining agent for the force’s more than 10,000 members across the province.
The Orillia resident previously served on the OPP Association’s board as vice president as well in the civilian director role.
“My immediate priority will be to continue our negotiations to improve benefits for our members, and work towards securing contracts for our sworn and civilian members, that make our valued members the highest paid with the best benefits in Ontario, long before our current contracts expire,” said Sabbatini in a news release.
In addition to Sabbatini, the OPP Association has named a new vice president during its annual general meeting in Collingwood on Thursday.
Dave Dube has been chosen to serve in that position, bringing with him years of experience form the Kirkland Lake detachment, where he was the OPP Association Branch 12 North president and sat in the civilian director role.
“After 26 years of being involved in the OPP Association, it has always been about our members, who are our focus and our strength,” said retiring president John Cerasuolo. “I am certain that the leadership of the OPP Association is in good hands, and I thank the membership for entrusting me with the leadership of this great organization.”
