Why is my water bill so thirsty?

There’s a little good news at City Hall: Kenora is on track to finish 2025 with a surplus.

Tax-supported departments are forecasting a surplus of $559,000. Solid Waste is also expected to come in ahead by $109,000. Water and Wastewater, though, is looking at a small $42,000 deficit.

And that’s where a lot of people might raise an eyebrow.

Because if the city’s financial picture is looking pretty healthy overall, residents might be wondering why their water bills still feel like they’re trying to fill Lake of the Woods one tap at a time.

To be fair, city finances are never as simple as moving money from one bucket to another. Still… it’s a fair question, and one plenty of Kenora residents are probably asking right now.
