Work on Keewatin Library roof to resume next month

Work is expected to resume next month on the Keewatin Public Library.

The roof replacement project started this summer, but has been delayed.

Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen says they are waiting for the manufacture of trusses for the roof.

“We should see construction starting in the first week of November,” Breen updated city council on the project.

“We’ve been in contact with the contractor, and they seem fully geared up to kick things back off there, even though there has been a pause while we waited for those trusses to be built.”

Breen says the new roof trusses should be arriving shortly.

The information he has is the fabrication of the trusses was beginning last week, and they should be delivered this week.

The city has set aside $500,000 for the roof replacement, but no date for completion has been given.

The Keewatin Public Library has been closed in June of 2024 due to concerns about the safety of the structure, especially the roof.
