Ronald Glen Schott
November 5, 1938 – August 20, 2025
Surrounded by loved ones, Ron passed away peacefully at home on his beloved couch on August 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 86. Ron will be remembered as a funny, witty, always down for a chat type of guy.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Eileen; children, Ray and wife Michelle, Debbie and husband Alan Bishop, Doug, and daughter in law Kim Humphrey; his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as ‘Bumpa’; Trina, Kyle, Siobhan, Rowan, Skye, Starr, Tyler, Lyndsey, Connor, and Evan, along with their partners; and great-grandchildren Taya, Avey, and Maeve.
He was predeceased by many dear family members, including his beloved adventurous son Darryl and his courage inspiration, his daughter-in-law Jennifer, with whom he now reunites.
Born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan and raised in Rosebank, Manitoba, Ron spent his early years helping on his grandparents’ farm with his favourite Aunt and Uncle, Bella and Clarence. At 14, he moved to Carman, MB, where he began working at Safeway and eventually met Eileen. They married in 1959 and built a life together in Kenora, where Ron worked as a butcher before joining the Kenora Police Service in 1962. He served with pride for 35 years, retiring as a respected and decorated Sergeant in 1997.
Ron was involved in the community and loved volunteering at the Legion, but his family was at the forefront of his life. Coaching his boys in sports, offering advice to Debbie and creating a home surrounded by music, with him on the guitar and often Eileen by his side on keyboard. He played in two bands—The Recycled Teenagers and The Harmony Kings— and he was known for his stomping rendition of Stompin’ Tom Connors. A avid storyteller with a sharp sense of humour, Ron entertained his grandchildren with exaggerated police tales, taking out his dentures, and singing/playing his guitar for them and with them. He found joy in gardening, baking, tinkering in the garage, and hunting for bargains. He especially loved road trips in his big white Dodge truck with Eileen by his side. Ron will be missed by all that loved him.
The family would like to send a big thank you to Mike Limerick, N.P., who Ron adored, Dr. Swett Cosentino, Darren Tacknyk, and Dave Francis N.W. EMS, the LWDH 3rd East nursing staff as well as Cory and the staff at Browns Funeral home, for their support and guidance. Thanks also to everyone who visited, shared memories and reached out during Ron’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation through their website in his honour to thank them for all that they have done.
