Festivals, Fresh Finds & Family Fun

Now that the summer is in full swing, there’s a lot going in Kenora and the surrounding region this week! Whether you want to buy fresh strawberries at the market, take a road trip to Red Lake’s biggest festival, drop the kids off to play basketball, or take the weekend off for a women’s outdoor adventure, the region has plenty in store for you!


Matiowski Farmers’ Market

It’s the seventh week of the Matiowski Farmers’ Market!

It runs every Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. under the Jarnel Contracting Pavilion. Even if you miss it today, you’ve got plenty of chances to check it out.

Each year, local and regional vendors sell fresh produce, baked goods, handmade goods, art, textiles, meats and more.

It’s one of the highlights of Kenora during the summer, so check it out when you can!


Courtside Care

Do your kids love basketball? On Thursday, July 16, the Youth and Family Wellness Camp invites local youth to Courtside Care. The event is made possible through the support of the Toronto Raptors, MLSE Foundation, and Sun Life.

The free basketball clinic for youth ages 6-20 runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while free health screenings and resources will be available for all ages from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event takes place at the St. Thomas Aquinas school gym, and you can register online.


Norseman Festival 2026

If you’re up for a weekend road trip, Red Lake’s most anticipated event, the Norseman Festival is running Friday through Sunday! It’s the perfect weekend getaway for family, friends or couples.

The opening ceremony start at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 17, with a packed schedule of events to follow:

  • July 17: Zootopia 2 Movie Night at the Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre at 7 p.m. ($5/person, or free with a Norseman Pass).
  • July 18 & 19: Prancing Pony Petting Zoo at the Red Lake Community Centre Pavilion from noon to 4 p.m.
  • July 17-19: Live music on the main stage.

Kenora Summer Collective: Women’s Adventure Weekend

Looking to getaway this weekend with the girlies? From Saturday to Sunday, you can embark on a nature adventure with other outdoorswomen.

The weekend features serene dock yoga, trail hiking, paddleboarding, a private tour of the Arts Centre and more. You can secure your spot through the Backcountry Women website.

Everyone deserves at least one summer weekend dedicated to exploring, relaxing and refreshing!
