Lake of the Woods Speedway to open for another season

It will be the ninth year for the Lake of the Woods Speedway.

The opening races will begin on Sunday.

Anthony Leek is president and says they’ve really increased the number of local drivers who are participating.

“We have a lot more locals now than we’ve ever had,” says Leek.

“We’re close to 20 local drivers, which when you think about it, eight years ago we had maybe one or two. So, it’s come a long way, and I hope that more and more people get involved.”

Leek says having so many local drivers helps market the speedway.

“You know, we want to provide excitement and entertainment, and I think there’s a huge advantage when you have someone that you know that’s racing. It’s a lot more personal…it’s a lot more exciting…it’s a lot more energetic when you have local people that you know competing out there.”

The opening session will take place on Sunday afternoon with hot laps at 4:00 and racing at 4:30.
