Niiwin Wendaanimok LP (Four Winds) based in Kenora is receiving almost two million dollars from Ontario’s Skills Development Fund.
Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development David Piccini says this will allow it to train Indigenous youth for construction jobs.
“Who are helping folks in Treaty #3 communities train in construction on Highway 17, along with financial literacy, job readiness supports and so much more,” Piccini told a press conference on Thursday in Sudbury.
“Taking an active stake in that critical infrastructure, highway expansion.”
Chief Herb Greene of Shoal Lake #40 says they are helping to train youth on important infrastructure projects.
“Our project has continued to be in high demand, and because of the support we have received today, we will continue to provide support to Indigenous youth in our community and our territory, to ensure we have the training for the jobs of tomorrow. Jobs like the twinning of Highway 17.”
The money is part of almost 8 million dollars through the sixth round of the Skills Development Fund Training stream.
Niiwin Wendaanimok LP is a partnership between Shoal Lake #40, Washgamis Bay, the Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation and Wauzhushk Onigum.
