October 19, 1982 – May 19, 2026
With deep sadness, we share the passing of a much‑loved member of our family. Adrian Einer Everson who passed away May 19, 2026, at the age of 43. Born in Kenora on October 19, 1982 and a member of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation, Adrian lived in Kenora all his life except for a period spent with his dad, living on Vancouver Island, BC.
Adrian worked as a fishing guide on Lake of the Woods for Wiley and Totem Lodges and for Island Builders as a carpenter. As many family members were before him, he was also a commercial fisherman on Lake of the Woods and Shoal Lake.
Adrian is survived by his children, Emily (mother Nicole Holmstrom) and Michael (mother Amy Moisionier), grandchildren Ryder and Ellie (mother Emily). Adrian was lovingly raised by father Einer Everson (with late stepmother Tina Skead), and mother Barb Everson (with late stepfather Ed Boucha). Paternal grandmother Georgina Everson and maternal grandfather Ernie Whiting. He leaves behind his brothers Chris (Chantel), C.J., Gavin, Kaylo and sisters Charmaine and CJ, nieces Caidence and Chordyn, aunts & uncles Marilyn, Carol, Fred (Ruby), Sharon (Jed), Anita, Allan (Lisa), Leslie, Chris (Mona), Cheryl, Nicole (Mark) and Mike. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Adrian’s early years were spent at the family farm on Holmstrom’s marsh. It was here that he spent time fishing, swimming, gardening, playing with his numerous cousins and learning traditional knowledge overseen by his many family members. It was a place of gathering and learning that was truly cherished. It was at this place that he built a unique bond with his grandmother Georgina Everson and Adrian will always hold a special place in Grandma Gina’s heart. He also spent quality time with his grandmother June Whiting (Byington), and the musically inclined Byington family, where he gained a love for music and musical instruments. He was an avid trapper and fisherman and enjoyed these pursuits with his very good friend Dan Martin and his wife, Paula.
Adrian had a big heart, and he cared deeply for the people in his life. His rare, kind spirit naturally drew others in. Gregarious and social, he would make everyone feel seen, valued, and connected. He always made space in his life and heart for the people around him, especially during the time he spent living within Kenora’s unhoused community.
As we try to be gentle with our hearts, we anchor our memories to his beautiful spirit — his warmth, his kindness, his laughter and to let the struggles he faced in this life gently fall away.
There is ongoing work to heal Indigenous hearts within this community and beyond, many of our loved ones are unhoused or disproportionately overrepresented by substance use and addictions. We stand together to take away shame or blame. We take comfort in knowing that Adrian is on his journey home, reunited with the late paternal grandfather Carl Everson and maternal grandmother June Whiting, and Alice Whiting, as well as his beloved aunt and uncles, Jacquie Stone, John Stone, Marvin Boucha and others who have gone before him.
Until we meet again, we will carry Adrian in our hearts. Love and light, always.
The family would like to thank the people who have helped Adrian over the years.
Adrian was a resident of Kenora, Ontario. A Wake Service will be held at the Youth & Elder Centre in Rat Portage, Ontario on June 1, 2026, at 3:00 pm and a Funeral Service will be held at the Youth & Elder Centre in Rat Portage, Ontario on June 2, 2026 at 10:00 am with burial to follow.
