Part of Quetico Park closed to users

Quetico Provincial Park is offering refunds to users impacted by a large forest fire.

The fire near Olifant Lake has prompted the closure of several lakes and portages in the northern part of the park for safety reasons.

It broke out at the end of June and has grown to over 13-hundred hectares.

As of Tuesday, the Ministry of Natural Resources declared the blaze still not under control.

In a post to its website, the park states that the affected area has been evacuated and temporarily closed because of smoke that is impacting air quality.

The park is offering affected park users and those with reservations the option of a full refund or the opportunity to change their entry point, if possible, to another location.

It is advising users not to cancel or change their reservations online but to call the park’s reservations team directly at 1-888-668-7275.

The park says it will assess the situation on Friday to determine if the closure needs to be extended and further reservations need to be cancelled or changed.
