American moose hunters fined $27,500 for illegal practices

The Ontario Court of Justice has fined three Americans from Wisconsin hefty sums for violating moose hunting regulations during a hunting trip in 2023.

While hunting in Skinner Lake, north of Pickle Lake, the hunters fired at two moose from a motorboat, one of which was swimming.

It was later determined that one of the hunters did not have a moose hunting license.

Ontario Conservation Officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources discovered the hunters during an aerial patrol over the lake.

In addition to facing fines totalling $27,500 between the three individuals, the three men have also received hunting license suspensions — two face ten-year suspensions, and one a five-year suspension.
